Made-to-Measure Service from £575
As Scotland’s premier Kiltmaker of Distinction, we are proud to be one of the few places that still manufacture traditional hand-stitched 8 and 9-yard kilts either in 13oz or 16oz tartan cloth.
At House of Argyll, we cater for everyone, no one is too big or too small, from partygoers to weddings, graduations & holy communions to celebrities and film industries.
We are renowned worldwide for the hassle-free service we provide. If you are looking for a clan heritage or something more streamline, with over 1,500 tartans to choose from, we guarantee there is something to meet your needs.
Our staff are well versed in kilt-making and have over 20 years of experience. We are one of the few companies who still manufacture kilts to military specifications. In recent years House of Argyll have taken on customer challenges and have made Kilts out of Tweed materials.
More About Our Kilts
- All kilts made by us are a minimum of 8 yards, they are traditional kilts, completely handcrafted in Scotland from 100% worsted wool.
- Our kilts are all hand stitched and come with 3 sizing straps: 2 around the waist, and 1 around the hips. There are two sporran loops at the back of the kilt.
- All handmade kilts can be altered in the future to some degree, they also come with adjustable straps where you will have some movement to tighten and loosen off the waist.
- Our kilts will be knife pleated to the ‘sett’ as standard, which means that the tartan at the back of the kilt has been pleated in such a way that it mirrors the pattern on the front. Pleating to the stripe and box pleating can also be undertaken.
- All our kilts come with free complimentary matching tartan flashes.
Some tartans may incur an additional surcharge due to increased costs for producing the cloth.
Erskine Centenary Tartan
House of Argyll have a long-standing partnership with Erskine, who have been catering for veterans since 1916, and as such are proud to be the sole suppliers of the Erskine Centenary Tartan of which we helped design.
The Erskine Centenary Tartan epitomises the pride and history of the ex-service community, incorporating the traditional colours of all three Armed Services; Navy, Army and RAF along with the gold of the Erskine Centenary Crest.
Trews from: £295
The tartan trews date back to 1538 as a style of woven tartan cloth trousers as a garment preferably used during the Highland winter where the kilt would be impractical in such cold weather. Traditional trews were cut on the cross-grain, which allowed the fabric to stretch sufficiently to mould to the body, and placed the tartan “sett” on the diagonal and are actually long hose. These hose came all the way up to the waist (not the hips) and were attached to a linen cloth. They were fastened at the lower leg, below the knee, by a garter.
Modern trews are more like trousers with the fabric cut on the straight grain but without a side seam, they are high-waisted and usually to be worn with a short jacket. They are a great alternative to the kilt.
All our Trews are made to measure with 100% worsted wool, thus can be tailored to your specifications, with hundreds of tartans to choose from.
